Plugin to Exclude Folders from All In One WP Migration
When making backups in WordPress with All in One Migration, the Plugin only considers the WordPress folders. So if you have other folders, for example, in the root of your site and they do not correspond to WordPress, it will not consider them part of the backup.
However, if you consider it part of the backup, other folders such as wp-content where the most significant number of WordPress files are stored.
Although the wp-content folder is a WordPress folder, some subfolders may not be interested in being part of the backup, for example, folders that create other plugins or image folders.
All In One WP Migration has Hooks that could exclude subfolders from the wp-content folder, which I showed above. However, there is a more straightforward way to do the exclusion through a plugin.
The Plugin that we will use will be Folder Excluder for AIO WP Migration, and it is a free plugin found in the WordPress plugin repository.
After installing and activating this Plugin, we can locate the configuration screen in the WordPress administration menu, in Settings>AIO WP Migration Folder Excluder.
Upon opening AIO WP Migration Folder Excluder options, you will see all the configurations available, which is quite simple. You have to add the relative path of the folders under wp-content that you want to exclude; you can separate the paths with a comma.
When saving, you will see that all the folder paths to exclude will appear in the lower section.
All those folders under wp-content will be excluded when you make a new backup with the All in all WP Migration plugin.
Do you want to exclude the uploads folder?
By default, the Plugin does not exclude folders from the WordPress core, so if you want to exclude the uploads folder, a possible alternative is to rename it temporarily and exclude it with the exclusion plugin, make the backup and then rename it to its original name again.
As you have seen, the All in One WP Migration plugin by default packages all WordPress folders, including everything found in wp-content, which is the folder that comes with most in a typical WordPress installation.
However, you can exclude subfolders from this folder using the Folder Excluder for the AIO WP Migration plugin.
